Golf to Host Dave Williams Pro-Am presented by Insperity

HOUSTON - Individual and team spots are still open for the University of Houston Golf's Dave Williams Pro-Am presented by Insperity on May 4, and interested players are encouraged to make their reservations today.
This annual event tees off at 9 a.m., Monday, May 4 on the Tournament Course at The Woodlands Country Club. All proceeds from this annual fundraiser benefit Project 17 - the Houston Golf booster club - and the capital campaign for the Dave Williams Golf Academy at Golf Club of Houston.
Teams can purchase a foursome for $5,000, while individuals can play for $1,250 per person. That gives participants the opportunity to play with a Champions Tour professional or former Houston Golf star and includes food, drinks and a tee gift. Space is limited, so interested fans are encouraged to make their reservations soon.
Registration and breakfast begin at 7 a.m., with the player auction slated to start at 8 a.m. Competition begins at 9 a.m., with a shotgun start.

The Dave Williams Pro-Am presented by Insperity will be part of a busy day for Houston Men's Golf. At 9 a.m., May 4, the Cougars will learn their NCAA Regional postseason fate with the NCAA Selection Show airing on The Golf Channel.
ABOUT DAVE WILLIAMS
The tournament is named after legendary Houston head coach Dave Williams, who led the Cougars to 16 NCAA team national championships from 1962-87. In his brilliant career, Williams guided Houston to 14 conference titles and more than 340 team tournament titles across 24 states and foreign countries.
Known as the Father of Collegiate Golf, Williams created the scoring system that continues to be used at collegiate events today.
He was inducted into the Golf Coaches Association of America, Texas Sports and Texas Golf halls of fame as well as the University of Houston Hall of Honor. In addition, the GCAA named its national men's collegiate golf Coach of the Year award in his honor in 1988.
Williams passed away in December 1998.

This will be a busy week for both Houston Golf programs as they wrap up their regular-season schedules. The Men's team will send two teams out with the first group competing at the Robert Kepler Intercollegiate in Columbus Ohio on Saturday and Sunday and the second 5-man group playing at the 36-hole Reveille Challenge at Traditions Golf Club in Bryan, Texas. on Sunday.
On the Women's side, the Cougars open play Friday morning at the SMU/DAC Invitational at Dallas Athletic Club in Dallas.
Following this weekend's events, both teams will prepare for the start of the postseason with the American Athletic Conference Championships.
