Shelby Miller Named American Pitcher of the Week

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Sophomore RHP Shelby Miller was named the American Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week for her outstanding performance on the rubber this weekend.
The Sweeny, Texas, native picked up one of the two crucial wins at Tulsa this weekend helping Houston Softball to gain control of second place in conference standings. She becomes the second pitcher in the conference to win the honor besides the pitching duo from UCF.
In two complete games thrown, Miller allowed only two earned runs on 10 hits, six walks and three strikeouts. In game one of the series, she did not allow a single earned run.
Miller is one of the only pitchers who also bats for herself. She batted .455 against the Golden Hurricane (5-for-11) with three RBIs. During game one, she went 3-for-4 and belted her second home run of the season.
Junior first baseman Courtney Klingler earned a spot on the weekly honor for her exceptional weekend at the plate.
Klingler went 4-for-9 (.444) against the Tulsa battery with a double in game one. The Manvel, Texas, native racked up an on base percentage of .500 and slugged .556. She also tallied 23 putouts and an assist on defense.
This is the second straight week Klingler was named to the conference honor roll.

Houston returns to Cougar Softball Stadium for the home finale as they host Lamar for a doubleheader on Wednesday starting at 4 p.m. The Cougars close out the regular season with a three-game road series at Memphis May 2-3.
