Men's 4x200m Relay Takes Bronze at Penn Relays

HOUSTON - The Houston Cougar men's 4x200m Relay team placed third in the championship final of the Penn Relays in Philadelphia, Pa., while another group of Cougars combined to set 19 personal records at the Rice J. Fred Duckett Twilight Invitational in Houston, on Saturday.
The 4x200m relay team consisting of juniors LeShon Collins, James Arnett and Issac Williams as well as sophomore Curtis Brown ran a 1:23.50 to take the bronze finishing behind two colleges that hailed from Jamaica. The Cougar mark sits as the sixth best time in the NCAA this season, and is the top time in the American Athletic Conference by nearly two full seconds (UConn, 1:25.46).
Collins had a big day individually as well, as the Philadelphia native returned home to finish fourth in the 100m dash in 10.51.
Back home in Houston, sophomore distance runner Brian Barraza just missed setting his fourth school distance record as he finished third in the 1500m run in 3:44.95 at the Twilight Invitational. Barraza was just 47 hundredths of a second shy of Patrick Picciano's school record of 3:44.48 which he set in 1988.
Selena Sierra was the top distance performer for the Cougar women after winning the 3000m steeplechase in 11:12.53.
Angelica Thompson posted a pair of top-5 finishes for Houston at the Rice in the 100m hurdles and the javelin. The multi-event athlete posted a 14.38, fourth-place finish in the hurdles and threw the javelin 40.78m to finish second.
Houston's long jumpers turned in a pair of top-3 finishes to move up in the American Athletic Conference ranks. Marc Clerveaux finished third with a jump of 7.29m which gives him the third best mark in the conference so far this year. For the women, Alicia Perkins jumped 5.84m to finish second and move into sixth in the conference.
UP NEXT
Houston heads to Austin, Texas for the Longhorn Invitational on Saturday, May 2, in what will be the Cougars final tune up before the American Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships in Storrs, CT. The women's hammer throw starts the action at noon CT, and the running events are set to begin at 4 p.m. CT with the Women's 4x100m relay.
