Cougars Qualify Five for Final Day of Penn Relays

PHILADELPHIA - The Houston Cougar men's and women's track and field teams qualified four individuals and one relay team for the finals of the Penn Relays to be held on Saturday, April 25, in Philadelphia, Pa.
The Cougar men's 4x200m Relay team consisting of juniors LeShon Collins, James Arnett, and Issac Williams as well as sophomore Curtis Brown were the first Cougars to qualify for the finals after posting a fifth place 1:24.84. The team will be in action on Saturday at 1:45 p.m. CT.
Later in the afternoon, Houston would go on to qualify a pair of sprinters after Collins, and sophomore Bria Carter posted some of the top times in the men's and women's 100m dashes. Collins finished the preliminaries in 10.51 to finish fourth, while Carter finished sixth in 11.78 in the women's race.
Following the dashes, each squad would qualify a hurdler for the final day of the meet. Sade-Mariah Greenidge posted a wind-aided 13.55 to qualify in fifth place in the 100m hurdles, while Williams posted the sixth best time in the 110m hurdles in 13.84.
For the women in the field events, senior discus thrower Justine Price found a mark of 49.73m (163'-7") to place sixth, while freshman Tony Burks set a new outdoor personal record in the triple jump after leaping 11.84m (38'-10.25") to finish 17th.
Shot putter Cameron Cornelius finished ninth with a throw of 17.29m as the Cougars' lone men's field competitor.
Saturday's action at the Penn Relays begins at approximately 12:37 p.m. CT, with the men's 4x100m relay. The same team that qualified in the 4x200m Relay will run the 4x1 after finishing with a time of 41.25 in 11th place on Friday. The Cougars failed to qualify for the finals, but will run again after having one of the best 17 times.
Houston will also see action tomorrow in the Rice J. Fred Duckett Twilight Invitational. The meet will begin at noon CT with the women's and men's hammer throw. Running events are split into two sessions, and the women's 100m hurdles leads the afternoon session at 3 p.m. CT. The evening session starts at 6 p.m. CT with the women's 4x100m relay.
