PREVIEW: Softball Travels to Tulsa This Weekend

HOUSTON - After picking up a huge three-game sweep over UConn last weekend, Houston Softball heads to Tulsa for another American Athletic Conference three-game series this weekend.
The teams open the series on Saturday with a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. Game one of the doubleheader will be aired on ESPNU. Game two will begin 20-30 minutes after the end of game one.
The series finale is set for Sunday at noon.

THE MATCH UP |
• Houston leads, 14-13
• Last Meeting: May 16, 2015 - Tulsa defeated Houston 10-6 at the NCAA Waco Regional.
HITS ON HOUSTON |
• Houston enters on a four game losing streak after the Cougars dropped a single game to Sam Houston State and three last weekend at No. 17 UCF.
• The Cougars midweek game at Louisiana-Lafayette was cancelled due to heavy rain since Sunday.
• Senior Sydney Gerbracht blasted a two-run triple against the left center wall, scoring the Cougars only two runs of the weekend. The hit was Gerbracht's second triple of the season.
• Senior SS Selena Hernandez is the toughest student-athlete to strikeout in the conference and now ranks second in the nation. On Defense, Hernandez has been a part of 15 of Houston's 25 double plays turned this season. She also leads the conference with the most assists (133), fourth best for a single season in school history, followed by teammate Shelby Miller (79).
• Freshman LF Kaylin Crumpton leads the conference for the most hit-by-pitches this season (17). She is ranked fifth in the nation for most HBP per game (0.46). Teammate Courtney Klingler has been plunked 11 times this season, second in the conference and 49th in the nation.
• In the 42 games played so far this season, Houston has already turned 25 double plays - just three shy of tying the school record. The Cougars lead the conference with most DP turned this season and ranks second in the nation for most DP turned per game (0.62).

Houston Softball closes out the 2015 regular season next week as the Cougars host Lamar on Wednesday for a midweek doubleheader. Game one is set for 4 p.m. Next weekend, the Cougars travel to Memphis for the last conference series of the year.

Selena Hernandez is the toughest to strikeout in the American Athletic Conference and second toughest in the Nation.
IN THE RECORD BOOKS
• Tied for second in school history for most season assists (142). Holds school record for most assists in a season (169).
• Fifth most in career assists (311)
• Tied season best 16 double plays turned, stands fifth best in school history. Tied for second most career DPs turned (32).
• Currently batting .321 with 43 hits, 28 runs scored, 10 doubles, two triples, five home runs, and 33 RBIs while slugging .537.
• Was named the American Athletic Conference Player of the Week (Apr. 6) and was selected to the honor roll twice (Feb. 9, Feb. 23).
• Reached base streak ended at 16, longest by a Cougar this season.

TAKING ONE FOR THE TEAM |
Freshman outfielder Kaylin Crumpton has taken one for the team, 17 to be exact. Crumpton has tallied 17 HBP this season, the fourth most in school history.
Crumpton leads the American Athletic Conference for most hit by pitches this season with 17. Teammate Courtney Klingler follows with 11. With her 17 HBP, Crumpton is now ranked sixth in the nation for averaging most hit by pitches per game (0.43).
Kendra Cullum broke the school record in 2013 with 38 and is ranked No. 2 in NCAA history for career hit by pitched (89).
DOUBLE THE TROUBLE |
• In the 45 games played so far this season, Houston has already turned 27 double plays - just one shy of tying the school record.
• The Cougars lead the conference with most DP turned this season and ranks third in the nation for most DP turned per game (0.60).
• Cougars turned two double plays in the doubleheader against No. 13 Baylor (March 17), and one in each of the games vs. USF (March 22).
• During the Hilton Houston Plaza Classic (Feb. 20-22), the Cougars turned three double plays against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, tied for the most double plays turned in a game.
• Last season, the Cougars broke the single-season record for most double plays turned (28).
