ORLANDO, Fla. - The University of Houston Softball program fell 8-2 in the series finale against American Athletic Conference rivals No. 17 UCF Sunday afternoon.

The Cougars are now 19-23 on the year, 4-4 in conference play while UCF improved to 40-6 on the year and 11-1 in the American.

UCF took a 3-0 lead early in the first inning off two infield singles a double and a throwing error by Houston. The Knights added to their lead the following inning with four singles and a couple stolen bases to plate two more runs.

The Knights held a 5-0 lead over the Cougars until Tiffani McKnight reached base and advanced to second on a throwing error by UCF's first baseman. McKnight stole third to move into scoring position as Kris Davila took a walk. Senior Sydney Gerbracht entered the game to pinch hit for Kayla Holland. With one out and two on base, Gerbracht came in the clutch as she blasted one against the left center fence for her second triple of the year, driving in two runs.

UCF went on to score three more runs in the bottom of the fifth and sixth innings to add to its lead.

Sophomore RHP Shelby Miller (4-7) went 5.0 innings, allowed only five earned runs and a walk. Junior RHP Shelby Turnier (21-5) took the win for UCF while senior Mackenzie Audas came in relief to pick up her second save of the year.

Houston Softball continues its road trip when the Cougars head to Lafayette, La., for a midweek series against No. 9 Louisiana-Lafayette. First pitch is set for 6 p.m.

All UH main campus students are admitted FREE to regular-season softball home games with a valid student ID.
