HOUSTON - The University of Houston Volleyball team volunteered at the Camp Lawrenz Fitness Extravaganza this weekend put on by Spring Branch ISD.
"The team had a great time teaching basic volleyball skills and playing with the elementary age campers at Camp Lawrenz Fitness Extravaganza," Head Coach Kaddie Platt said. "Planting a seed of a college education is one of the key reasons we like investing in elementary age. This is the age the dream starts."
The event featured instruction in 18 sports and activities to SBISD elementary students in first through
fifth grade. Several members of the volleyball team ran stations and interacted with the students.
"Camp Lawrenz is always an awesome event to volunteer. It's exciting to be able to engage with elementary school students and fuel their desires to get up and be active," junior Olivia O'Dell said. "We also get the opportunity to share our college experience with the kids which hopefully inspires them to dream big and further their education. Overall it is such a rewarding experience and a great atmosphere for the students to have fun and learn new skills."
