HOUSTON - Houston Volleyball senior hitter Kadi Kullerkann added to an already decorated 2015 season as the American Athletic Conference officials named her the 2014-15 Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year Wednesday.
Kullerkann will receive a $4,000 scholarship, which may be applied to graduate or professional studies, as The American's Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
Kullerkann served as the Cougars' number one hitter as she closed out the year leading the conference with 644 kills, averaging 5.03 per set. She also ranked third in the nation for total kills and total attacks and is fifth in the nation for kills per set. Kullerkann stands third in kills for a single season in school history and is now the conference record holder for the most kills and kills per set in a single season.
The Estonia native played in all 32 matches this season, only missing one set. She recorded double-digit kills in all 32 matches and led the team with a hitting average of .274.
This season, Kullerkann tallied 686.5 points, averaging 5.36 per set, to lead the conference. Her average ranked eighth nationally.
The 6-3 hitter tallied a 37-kill performance in a five-set victory over Texas A&M Corpus-Christi (Sept. 19), the second best showing by any Division I athlete during the 2014 season. Kullerkann wrote herself into the conference record books as she broke the record for the most kills in a match.
Following her illustrious season, the Estonian received AVCA All America Honorable Mention honors after being named to the Division I Southeast All-Region Team. She was also named First Team All-American Athletic Conference for her conference-leading performance this season.
In addition to her success on the court, Kullerkann posted a 3.92 semester GPA while maintaining a 3.82 cumulative GPA over four years. Academically, she has been named to the Dean's list six straight semesters.
Kullerkann will earn a bachelor's degree in Digital Media with a minor in Computer Applications in May and plans to attend graduate school following graduation.
The American Athletic Conference Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year award is one of a number of scholarships presented by the conference during the 2014-15 academic year. One male and one female from each of the conference's 11 member institutions may be named as the winners of the conference's Institutional Scholar-Athlete Scholarships.
