SKILLMAN, N.J. -- A 13-match winning streak has lifted the University of Houston tennis team up to No. 28 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association national rankings, it was announced today. The ranking is the highest of the season for Patrick Sullivan's team.
Houston (17-4) has not lost since Feb. 14, and their 13-match run is tied for the longest streak in school history. The Cougars equaled the record on March 28 with a 5-2 victory over No. 29 Dartmouth and a 6-0 sweep of Tyler Junior College.
The ranking is Houston's first foray into the national top-30 since April 8, 2014. Houston remains the top-ranked team from the American Athletic Conference, and they are the only American program to be ranked every week this season.
Only team rankings were released on Tuesday. Thus, sophomore Despoina Vogasari remains at No. 42 in singles play, and senior Elena Kordolaimi is listed at No. 118. Both players are tied for the team lead with 26 singles victories, while Kordolaimi paces the Cougars with 14 doubles wins.
Houston owns eight victories this season over ranked opponents, setting a new school record.
