Cougars Add Home-and-Home Series with Texas

HOUSTON - Head Coach Patrick Sullivan is proud to announce that the University of Houston tennis program has added a home-and-home series with the University of Texas, which will begin this season. The Cougars will host Texas on Saturday, March 7 at 1 pm CT at the John E. Hoff Courts before making a return trip to Austin in 2016.
Houston was able to add a match to the 2015 schedule after rain forced the cancellation of the Feb. 1 match at Arizona.
"We're excited to get a storied program like Texas on our home courts, and we hope that the Cougar faithful will come out and support us on March 7," said Sullivan.
Texas (2-1) is currently ranked No. 23 in the nation by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. Houston last hosted the Longhorns on Feb. 25, 1995, an 8-0 loss. Then ranked No. 2 in the nation, Texas went on to win the NCAA Division I National Championship that season.
Sullivan says that the addition of Texas is the result of much hard work and commitment from the entire Houston athletics department.
"We are fortunate to have had the administrative support to travel aggressively in order to play quality competition and earn a national ranking," said Houston's third-year head coach. "It is rewarding to have had enough success to be able to start scheduling series like this one, as well as Texas Tech and TCU in upcoming seasons."
Houston (2-3) is currently ranked No. 51 by the ITA. Sophomore Despoina Vogasari is the top ranked collegiate player in Texas and the No. 21 player in the nation, and senior Elena Kordolaimi is ranked No. 52 nationally. Freshman Angela Lorenzo is ranked No. 106, making Sullivan's team the only program in the state of Texas to currently feature three nationally-ranked singles competitors.
