Providence, R.I. - For the fifth consecutive week a Houston Cougar track and field athlete has been named the American Athletic Conference Track Athlete of the Week. Issac Williams claimed the honor this week after his victory in the 60m hurdles at this weekend's Howie Ryan Invitational.
Williams ran what would be the 13th fastest time in the nation (Williams already sits tied for No. 1 in the NCAA in the event) with a 7.82 in the finals to defeat the rest of the field. For Williams, the victory was his fourth in as many tries in the event this season, having won the 60m hurdles previously at the Reveille Invitational, the Houston Indoor Opener, and the University of New Mexico Lobo Collegiate Open.
The award marks the sixth time this season a Houston student-athlete has been named the American Athletic Conference Athlete of the Week award in just five weeks that the award has been given. Both Williams and his teammate Cameron Burrell have won the award twice, while sophomore distance runner Brian Barraza has also been named Track Athlete of the Week, and freshman sprinter/jumper Trumaine Jefferson owns the Cougars' lone Field Athlete of the Week award.
