Men's Golf Hosts Bayou City Collegiate Championship

HUMBLE, Texas - For the third consecutive season, the University of Houston Men's Golf program will play host to some of the nation's premier collegiate teams at the Bayou City Collegiate Championship, starting Friday morning at Golf Club of Houston.
The three-day, 54-hole event tees off with 9 a.m., starts Friday and Saturday and wraps up with an 8:30 a.m., shotgun start Sunday. Admission is free, and all fans are invited to attend.

This year, the Cougars welcome Arkansas, Baylor, Charlotte, Lamar, Louisiana-Lafayette, McNeese State, New Mexico State, Northern Illinois, Sam Houston State, South Carolina, Southeastern Louisiana, Troy, UTSA and co-host Rice on the 6,982-yard, par-72 Tournament Course layout.
No. 9 South Carolina, No. 10 Baylor and No. 31 Houston are ranked among the nation's top-50 leaders in the latest Golfstat rankings, while No. 52 Troy, No. 56 Southeastern Louisiana, No. 57 Arkansas, No. 62 New Mexico State, No. 70 Sam Houston State, No. 85 UTSA and No. 90 McNeese State are featured among the top 100.
HOUSTON'S LINEUP
Robledo has competed in all four team events this season and is tied for the team lead with four rounds of par or better. The Harlingen, Texas, native is a five-time tournament champion during his collegiate career and returns as the Bayou City Collegiate Championship's defending champion.
Over the summer, he competed at the U.S. Amateur Championship in Atlanta, advancing to the Quarterfinals at the nation's premier amateur event.
Scobie will make his second appearance of the spring season after tying for 47th at the Miramont Invitational on Oct. 13-14.
Pilgrim joins Robledo as the lone seniors on the 2014-15 team and has competed in all four team events this season. The Colleyville, Texas, native is an award-winning student-athlete and tied for sixth at the Wolf Run Intercollegiate with a score of 219 on Sept. 20-21, 2015.
Hamilton was a steady performer for the Cougars during the fall season with three straight top-20 finishes, including a 11th-place showing at the season-opening Northern Intercollegiate on Sept. 5-7, 2014.
While Perras is in his first collegiate season as a freshman with the Cougars, the Deer Park, Texas, native has made an impact, competing in all four team-scoring events. With back-to-back 70s, he tied for third at the rain-shortened Miramont Invitational to help lead the Cougars to the team title.
Gibbons and De Bondt will make their collegiate debuts in stroke play. During the fall season, each posted a 1-1 record at the Moe O'Brien Match Play Championship against McNeese State and Southeastern Louisiana in Lake Charles, La.
Gonzalez also competed at the Moe O'Brien Match Play Championship during the fall and tied for 43rd at the Miramont Invitational with a score of 151.
Oh tied for eighth at the Miramont Invitational with back-to-back 71s for finish a career-best eighth at 2-under-par 142.
Martino competed in all four scoring team events during the fall and leads the Cougars with a 73.73 scoring average. The Southlake, Texas, native was a steady performer at the Northern Intercollegiate to post a career-best second-place finish at 1-under-par 215 and tied for 10th at the Miramont Invitational.
A YEAR AGO
The Cougars opened the spring season as a team in impressive fashion, posting a score of 31-under-par 833 to sweep the Bayou City Collegiate team and individual championships a year ago.
Ten Houston golfers posted an amazing 18 sub-par rounds with the Cougars firing three straight team sub-par rounds.
Roman Robledo enjoyed three straight rounds in the 60s to earn medalist honors at 12-under-par 204 with Wesley McClain and Matt Scobie finishing second and fifth, respectively. James Ross, Kyle Pilgrim and Curtis Reed joined that Houston group among the tournament's top-20 leaders.
It was the first of three straight team championships for Houston as a team and three straight individual crowns for Robledo.
UP NEXT
Following the Bayou City Collegiate Championship, the Cougars will compete at the Querencia Cabo Collegiate in Querencia, Los Cabos, Mexico on March 1-3.
A year ago, the Cougars swept the team and individual titles behind Robledo's stellar play and ended Alabama's 11-tournament winning streak.
