Cougars Impress at 2015 Reveille Invitational

HOUSTON -- The Houston Cougar men's and women's track and field teams opened the 2015-16 indoor season in impressive fashion with nine top-3 finishes at the Texas A&M Reveille Invitational in College Station, Texas on Saturday.
All-American hurdler Issac Williams picked up where he left off last season winning the 60m hurdles in 7.88, while freshman Felicienne Axel made an immediate impact on campus by claiming victory in the women's long jump, with a long leap of 5.73m (18'9.75").
Junior Cameron Burrell returned from his season-ending injury in 2014-15 to claim second in the men's 60m dash, when he ran 6.70, while defending American Athletic Conference 60m dash champion Bria Carter finished 14th in 7.66.
Sophomore Diayja Sheppard had a big day in the women's high jump after taking second with a leap of 1.71m (5'7.25"). On the men's side, freshman high jumper Colin George made an impressive debut taking fourth in the high jump at 1.97m (6'5.5"), while junior Morris Olumba placed fifth in 1.93m (6'4").
Houston's throwers continued the strong day for the Cougars coming up with top-3 finishes in each of the women's shot put and men's weight throw. Junior Damon Thompson threw 17.45m (57'3") to take third in the weight, while junior A'Nease Linnear took third in the shot put in 12.78m (41'11.25").
In the women's sprints, junior Tori Williams had a career day, setting a new personal best in the 200m, running 23.89 to finish sixth overall and third among collegiate athletes. Williams along with senior Kelli Hardnett and sophomore Christina Tillett all set new personal bests in the 200.
Sophomore Ebony White wrapped up the individual top finishes for the runners when she clocked a personal best 2:52.70 to finish second in the 1,000m run. Hayley Houston would go on to close the day out for Houston with a second place finish in the pole vault and a jump of 3.76m (12'4").
On the evening, the Cougars posted 31 personal records and saw 16 different student-athletes make their collegiate debuts.
UP NEXT FOR HOUSTON
The Cougars have a month off of competition before returning to action on January 15, 2016 when they host the Leonard Hilton Memorial Invitational at the Yeoman Fieldhouse. The Leonard Hilton will be the first of three home indoor meets for the Cougars in 2016.
