Greg Ward Jr. Named Maxwell Award Semifinalist

HOUSTON - Houston junior quarterback Greg Ward Jr. has been named a semifinalist for the 79th Maxwell Award for the Collegiate Player of the Year, the Maxwell Football Club announced Monday.
Ward has helped Houston to its fourth 8-0 start in program history with a nation-leading 16 rushing touchdowns.

He is the only player nationally to average over 200 passing yards per game (244.4 yards per game) and over 85 rushing yards per game (88.8) while ranking 11th nationally in total offense with 333.1 yards per contest.
Ward is third nationally in scoring with 96 points while ranking seventh in points responsible for per game with 20.3 per game.
The Tyler, Texas, native is second nationally this season, completing 70.8 percent (148-of-209) of his passes through eight games.
The electrifying Ward is fourth nationally with seven rushing attempts of at least 30 yards and is ninth nationally, first among all QBs, with 10 rushing attempts of at least 20 yards.
Ward ranks in the top 11 in eight of the NCAA's recognized stat categories: completion percentage (2nd), passing efficiency (11th), points responsible for (8th), points responsible for per game (7th), rushing TDs (1st), scoring per game (4th), total offense (11th) and yards per pass attempt (7th).

The winner of the 79th Maxwell Award will be announced as part of the Home Depot College Football Awards Show which will be broadcast on ESPN on Dec. 10 from the College Football Hall of Fame in Atlanta. Three finalists for each award will be announced on Nov. 24, and a second round of voting will take place at that time.
Ward and Houston take on Cincinnati at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, at TDECU Stadium in the 70th Homecoming game presented by TDECU. The game will air on ESPN2 and KPRC 950 AM with the radio pregame show kicking off at 1 p.m.
