Q: When did you start playing baseball?
JK: I started playing baseball when I was three years old. My dad is a head baseball coach so I used to sit and stare out the window and watch his team's practice.
Q: Have you always been a pitcher?
JK: I haven't always been a pitcher. I actually started pitching my junior year in high school. I made the switch to pitcher after I grew a little and got a little taller. I told my dad I was going to pitch for us my junior year after a good fall and ended up being a pitcher.
Q: Do you have any favorite baseball memories?
JK: I pitched in a 10-inning game once and that was pretty memorable. It was also pretty exciting when our JUCO team held the No. 1 ranking in the nation for a little bit last season.
Q: Do you have any pregame rituals or superstitions?
JK: I always turn my pants inside out when I put them on and I always put my left shoe on before my right.
Q: What would a former coach or teammate say about you in a few words?
JK: I'm very vocal, someone who likes to talk. I'm loose and pretty goofy off the field, but can quickly shift to being serious when it's time to play.
Q: What makes the University of Houston the place for you?
JK: I've never been a big fan of any other university in the state of Texas. Houston is the perfect fit for me and I wouldn't imagine myself anywhere else. I was able to build a relationship with pitching coach Frank Anderson before coming and that made a huge difference.
Q: Do you have a favorite MLB player?
JK: Ken Griffey Jr. because I always grew up a Reds fan. They were my dad's favorite team.
Q: Did you play any other sports in high school?
JK: I played football and baseball in high school.
Q: What are you most excited about this season?
JK: I'm looking forward to just getting the season underway and begin our quest for Omaha.
