HOUSTON - Houston quarterback Greg Ward Jr. was named a Manning Award Star of the Week and to the Davey O'Brien Award's "Great 8" for his performance in Saturday's 38-24 win at Tulsa.
For Ward it was the third time this season to earn the Manning Award honor and the first to earn the Davey O'Brien honor.

Ward led Houston to a win in its first conference game of the season, defeating Tulsa, 38-24, on the road Saturday as he broke a 33-year old Houston record for rushing yards in a game by a quarterback with 182 yards, the third-highest rushing total in The American this season, regardless of position. He accomplished the feat on 20 carries, tying his own second-best mark in The American with an average of 9.1 yards per carry.
Ward tied his own program record for rushing touchdowns in a game by a quarterback with his three scores, his third game this season with multiple rushing TDs. Ward added 273 yards through the air on 22-of-38 passing to finish with 455 yards of total offense. With his three scores Saturday, Ward has now been responsible for a touchdown (passing or rushing) in 12 straight games.
Houston returns to action this Thursday when it hosts SMU for its first home American Conference showdown of the season. The game kicks off at 7 p.m. CT and will air on ESPN2 and KPRC 950 AM.
