Houston Baseball Spotlight: Wendell Champion II

Q: When did you start playing baseball?
WC: I first started playing baseball when I was six years old because the game was already appealing to me.
Q: Finish this sentence ... Playing baseball at Houston...
WC: ... has and will make me into a great baseball player and an even better man.
Q: Why is the University of Houston the right fit for you?
WC: It was the right fit for me because it was close to home, the program has a tradition of winning and is getting back to that. Also the coaching staff had a huge role in making my decision.
Q: If you had a theme song to your life, what would it be and why?
WC: That's tough... Big Rings by Drake is my theme song because I live life to the fullest and always having fun with my boys and we are constantly grinding trying to do big things.
Q: What would a former coach or teammate say about you in a few words?
WC: I feel like they would say I'm a hard worker, a humble person, I give 100% to my team and a leader.
Q: What are your strengths as a player?
WC: I feel like my strengths are that I bring a lot of energy, and I'm a guy who will do whatever the team needs in order to reach the end goal.
Q: If you could have lunch with anyone (dead or alive), who would it be and why?
WC: Beyonce because that's my celebrity crush / Ken Griffey Jr. because he's my favorite baseball player / Jesus I mean who wouldn't want to have lunch with him
Q: Who is your role model and why?
WC: My dad has always been my role model because of the man he is in regards to my family, the respect he has from others and the way he carries himself.
Q: What are you most excited about this season?
WC: I'm looking forward to playing in this collegiate atmosphere and being able to be part of a team like the University of Houston baseball team.
