Career Night by Volleyball Ends in 3-2 Win

TAMPA, Fla. â€" A career night by several Houston Volleyball players led to an exciting five-set win (21-25, 25-21, 25-18, 24-26, 15-11) over South Florida Friday night.
Houston improves to 12-3 on the season, 2-1 in the American Athletic Conference while USF falls to 4-11, 1-2 in league play.
South Florida took the lead quickly in the first set and never let up as the Cougars fell 25-21. The Bulls continued their momentum through the first five points of the second set until a USF service error put Houston on the board. From there, the Cougars battled point-for-point with the Bulls.
Houston gained the lead for the first time of the night on a 7-0 run to make it 15-11, forcing a USF timeout. The Cougars kept the lead for the rest of the set to win 25-21 and tie the match 1-1.
Coming out of a 10-minute half, the Cougars quickly took a 2-1 lead in the match with a 25-18 win in set three.
The Cougars led most of the fourth set but a 15-6 run late in the set by the Bulls tied the match 2-2 with a 26-24 set win. Houston rallied in the fifth and final set to pick up the first conference road win of the season.
Freshman outside hitter Brookah Palmer recorded her sixth double-double of the season with 18 kills and 13 digs. Sophomore setter Keandra McCardell tallied her fifth double-double of the season with 44 assists and a career-high 17 digs.
Redshirt freshman Chenelle Walker had a great night with the middle attack as she posted eight kills and two solo blocks. Sophomore transfer Shelby Harper had her best showing of the season as she tallied seven kills, two service aces and five blocks.
Senior libero Olivia O'Dell had a career night as she recorded 37 digs, the fifth most in school history for a five-set match.
NEXT SERVE
Houston Volleyball travels to UCF on Sunday for a 1 p.m. match. The Cougars return to Houston before facing Tulane in a midweek match on Oct. 7 in New Orleans, La.
