Demarcus Ayers Named to Biletnikoff Award Watch List

HOUSTON - Houston receiver Demarcus Ayers has been named to the watch list for the Biletnikoff Award, presented annually to the nation's outstanding receiver in college football, the Tallahassee Quarterback Club Foundation announced Wednesday.

The junior leads Houston with 40 receptions for 469 yards and three touchdowns through five games. Ayers ranks 11th nationally and second in The American Athletic Conference with an average of eight receptions per game. He's 22nd nationally and fourth in The American with an average of 93.8 receiving yards per game.
Ayers has had a minimum of six receptions and 53 yards in every game this season including two 100-yard games. It's a breakout season for the Lancaster, Texas, native who totaled 33 receptions for 335 yards and two touchdowns in all of 2014.
He's also added nine rushing attempts for 102 yards.
The 2015 Biletnikoff Award winner will be announced live by 1991 Heisman Trophy winner and former receiver Desmond Howard on Dec. 10, 2015, on ESPN's The Home Depot College Awards show, at 7 p.m. ET at the College Football Hall of Fame in Atlanta.
Ten semifinalists for the award will be announced on Nov. 17 with three finalists being named on Nov. 24.
Ayers and Houston return to action this Friday when they travel to New Orleans to take on Tulane. Kickoff is slated for 8 p.m. CT and the game will air on ESPNU and KPRC 950 AM.
