Cougars to Compete in First Road Trip of 2015

HOUSTON - The Houston Cougar men's and women's track and field teams will head out of state for the first time this season to compete in the University of New Mexico Lobo Collegiate Open, on Saturday, Jan. 24 in Albuquerque, N.M.
Action is scheduled to begin from the Albuquerque Convention Center at 10 a.m., with the women's weight throw, women's high jump, and men's long jump. The running events will kick off at 12:15 p.m., with the men's 60m hurdle prelims and will run through the women's 4x400m relay at 3:50 p.m.
Houston will compete against Division I teams from across the nation at the University of New Mexico Lobo Collegiate Open including Arizona, CSUN, Cal State Fullerton, Fresno State, Grand Canyon, Harvard, Incarnate Word, New Mexico, New Mexico State, Portland State, Sam Houston State, Stephen F. Austin, Texas and UTEP.
The Cougars are fresh off the Leonard Hilton Memorial Invitational where they set 29 personal records and won six individual events in the team's second home event of the season.
Two of the team's wins came from freshman Trumaine Jefferson, who won the long jump event by jumping 7.62m on his first leap as a collegiate athlete, and sophomore Brian Barraza who set a new personal record (4:09.03) in the mile. Jefferson and Barraza were reward as American Athletic Conference Track and Field athletes of the week for their performance at the meet.
