Cougars Up to No. 35 in Latest ITA Rankings

HOUSTON - The University of Houston tennis team improved two spots to No. 35 in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association national rankings, it was announced today. The Cougars share the spot with Princeton University.
UCLA continues to hold the top spot in the rankings, followed by Florida, North Carolina, Duke and Virginia.
Houston (1-1) opened the season with a 6-1 victory over UTSA on Jan. 17 and lost to No. 61 BYU, 4-3, on Jan. 19.
The next set of individual rankings will be released on Feb. 10. Houston currently has three nationally-ranked singles players, with sophomore Despoina Vogasari leading the way at No. 21. Senior Elena Kordolaimi is ranked No. 52 nationally, and freshman Angela Lorenzo is tied for No. 106.
Vogasari and Kordolaimi have each won their first two singles matches of the spring season.

Houston's first spring season road trip begins on Saturday, Jan. 24 when the Cougars face TCU as part of the ITA Kickoff Weekend event in College Station, Texas. First serve is scheduled for 9 am CT.
The Cougars will face either No. 11 Texas A&M or No. 70 North Texas on Sunday in the final round of the two-day tournament.
