HOUSTON - Junior hurdler Isaac Williams has been named The American Athletic Conference Track Athlete of the Week for his record-setting performance in the 60m hurdles at the Houston Indoor Opener last week, the conference announced Tuesday.
Williams set a new school record in the 60m hurdles with his time of 7.72 in the finals of the event at the Opener. Williams came close to the record, which he previously shared with Darius Pemberton and Andrew Carruthers (7.81) in the preliminaries, and the semifinals when he raced a 7.83 and 7.82 respectively before eventually shattering the mark.
William's time in the 60m hurdles was fast enough to rank him No. 1 in the nation and No. 2 in the world in the event. The Willingboro, N.J., native became the second Houston track athlete to win the award after sophomore Cameron Burrell won the award following the Reveille Invitational on Dec. 13.
