HOUSTON - Freshman defender Georgi Dolence has been named to the American Athletic Conference Player of the Week honor roll, the conference office announced Monday.
The freshman Las Vegas, Nev., native, scored her first career goal in the 53rd minute of Houston's 1-1 draw in Lafayette, La., on Friday. The goal tied the game just 71 seconds after the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns had claimed the lead.
"This is great news for Georgi Dolence," head coach Chris Pfau said. "She's been playing very well. She's been playing in the back, so to move her into the midfield the last couple of games and see her start to develop great opportunities has been great for us. She's allowed us to be able to be a little more flexible and do more things. To see her finish that one and tie the game up is exciting."
Dolence has played a key role in each of the Cougars last two matches as she also assisted on the Cougars' goal in the 1-1 draw against Utah State on Sept. 14.
