HOUSTON - University of Houston Softball Head Coach Kyla Holas has been listed as one of the former Pasadena ISD athletes selected for induction next year in the district's Athletics Hall of Fame.
She is one of six in the class of 2015 inductees and will join 26 other Pasadena ISD former athletes and coaches who have been enshrined in the Hall of Fame Museum at Phillips Field House.
The induction ceremony for the six new Hall of Fame members will take place on Saturday, April 12, 2015, at Phillips Field House.
Tickets for the event will go on sale early next year. The first three Hall of Fame induction banquets were sellouts.
Still, only a handful of Pasadena ISD athletes can match the college dominance of the youngest inductee - Kyla Hall Holas.
A 1990 South Houston High School graduate, Holas was a three-time NCAA All-American as a record-setting softball pitcher at Southwestern Louisiana (now Louisiana-Lafayette) in the early 1990s. She received WCWS All-Tournament Team honors and was a two-time finalist (1993-94) for the prestigious Honda Broderick Cup, a national award given to the top female student-athlete at the NCAA level.
Holas racked up a career 104-20 record, in addition to compiling a .301 career batting average, en route to setting seven school records. Her .839 winning percentage is still in the Top 15 in NCAA record books. In 1999, Holas was inducted into the Louisiana-Lafayette Athletics Hall of Fame alongside such sports greats as Pete Maravich, Terry Bradshaw, Archie Manning, Lou Brock and Joe Brown.
In 2011, Holas was named to her high school's (South Houston) Hall of Honor for her accomplishments as an athlete and a coach.
Fifteen years ago, Holas was hired by the University of Houston to construct the program from scratch. Under her leadership, Houston Softball is now a fixture in NCAA playoff competition.
The Class of 2015 inductees will join 26 other former Pasadena ISD athletes and coaches already enshrined. The museum, which opened last April, is open to the public on football game days this fall. The public is invited to view exhibits for two hours each game day, starting one hour before each kickoff.
