Cougars Play To 1-1 Draw Against HBU

Houston (1-2-2) got a goal from junior midfielder Lexa Green and five saves from junior goalkeeper Jordan Brown to help lead the effort.
"This was a good performance as a team and we did some very good things, especially in the first half," head coach Chris Pfau said. "We kept the ball and created some great chances and played as a team. In the second half of Mercer and this game we have started to compete and play well."
Despite taking nine shots (three on goal) in the first period, Houston took the lead on the first goal of the game in the 71st minute off a free kick at midfield. Junior defender Meghan Brascia played the ball into the box where Green chested it down and played a chip-shot over the keeper's head for her first goal of the season.
Houston Baptist (1-4-1) knocked home the equalizer 10 minutes later, when Kristi O'Brien scored her second goal of the season, on a header off a corner kick from Ellee Hall to tie the game and send it to overtime.
"As you are building a team, and you are young, the hardest thing to do is turn the corner or finish out a game," Pfau said. "It comes down to the small things; not finishing your chances or clearing a ball. This is a game that with 10 minutes left, and a 1-0 lead, we let slip away, because we had no one step up as a leader on the field. It was a good learning lesson and something that we need to continue to work on, and I hope that someone steps up and takes charge as we go into conference."
