HOUSTON - Houston senior center Bryce Redman has been named to the Rimington Trophy watch list the Rimington Trophy committee announced Tuesday. The Longview, Texas, native has started the last 21 games at center for the Cougars.
Tuesday's honor marks the second consecutive year for Redman, who was named Preseason First Team All-American Athletic Conference by Phil Steele, to be named to the Rimington Trophy watch list.
Redman is the third UH student-athlete in two days to be named to a national award watch list, joining junior receiver Deontay Greenberry and sophomore quarterback John O'Korn who were named to the Maxwell Award watch list on Monday.
In 2013, Redman led the Houston offensive line with 989 snaps played and 41 knockdown blocks. The senior helped the offense finish third in The American Athletic Conference with an average of 33.2 points per game.
The Rimington Trophy is presented annually to the Most Outstanding Center in NCAA FBS College Football. The 15-year old award is overseen by the Boomer Esiason Foundation, which is committed to finding a cure for cystic fibrosis and has raised over $100 million for CF Research.
Dave Rimington, the award's namesake, was a consensus first-team All-America center at the University of Nebraska in 1981 and 1982, during which time he became the John Outland Trophy's only double winner as the nation's finest college interior lineman.
