Haley Outon hit a huge home run to left center and put Houston (32-20 | 14-8) ahead 1-0 in the fourth inning. The homer was the senior's second of the series and third in the last four games as she continues to add to her conference-leading totals with 15 home runs and 53 RBIs on the season.
Houston used the next inning to pad build a 4-0 lead that started with Selena Hernandez's base hit. Back-to-back singles by Kayla Holland and Haley Outon lead to two runs scoring and Haley at third from a throwing error on the play. Junior Jaime Edwards hit Houston's fourth single of the inning to score Haley for her second run of the game.
Diedre Outon threw the complete game to improve her record to 15-9 on the year. The senior received help from her defense to eliminate a run from scoring in the fourth on a sharp relay throw from Katie St. Pierre to Selena Hernandez onto Haley Outon at the plate.
Rutgers (27-17 | 9-9) brought the tying run to the plate in the sixth after a pair of runs found their way home from Melanie Slowinski's double that tipped off the glove of Diedre and trickled into the outfield. Outon pitched out of the jam and finished the game to help Houston past Rutgers for the teams fifth conference series win of the year.
