Michael Mahnke Punches Ticket to Nationals

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Senior Michael Mahnke punched his ticket to the NCAA national championships in Eugene, Ore., during day one of the NCAA Division I West Preliminary rounds in Fayetteville, Ark., Thursday afternoon.
The Houston native sealed his destiny after clearing a personal best of 5.26m (17'-3") in the men's pole vault competition finishing in the top 12. He enters the top five all time list tied with former Cougar pole vaulter Alex Bentley (2011). He will compete at the national championships in Eugene, Ore., June 11-14.
This is the first time Mahnke has qualified for the national championships in his collegiate career and the first time since 2011 that a Cougar has qualified in the men's pole vault.
QUARTERFINALISTS
Eight Cougars have qualified for the quarterfinals in their respective events scheduled tomorrow evening. For the men's team, senior Errol Nolan automatically qualified for the 400m with the 10th fastest time of 46.32. Cameron Burrell and LeShon Collins both qualified for the 100m quarterfinals while Anthony Coleman received an automatic qualifying bid in the 800m.
On the women's side, junior Sade-Mariah Greenidge has qualified for the 400m Hurdles quarterfinals tomorrow at 7:45 p.m. and will also competed in the 100m hurdles. Bria Carter and Ngozi Onwumere have both qualified in the 100m. In the women's 400m dash, seniors Terracia Moody and Brittany Wallace qualified for the quarterfinals. Wallace received the automatic qualifying spot.

Houston continues competition at the NCAA West Prelims Friday starting with the women's discus at 3 p.m. Running events are scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. with the men's 110m hurdles. A full list of Houston's competition schedule can be found below.
