Haley Outon Named Academic All-American

HOUSTON - University of Houston's Haley Outon was named to the 2014 Capital One Academic All-American team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), the organization announced on Thursday.
Outon landed on the Third Team after helping carry the Cougars to their fourth-straight NCAA postseason appearance while leading the league in home runs (16) and RBIs (55). The savvy slugger also carried a team best GPA of 3.71 while finishing her degree in health promotions this past semester.
To be eligible for consideration of being named to the All-American squad, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or a key reserve, maintain a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.3 or better on a scale of 4.0 and have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at her current institution.
The Pflugerville, Texas, native becomes the first Cougar in school history to earn Academic All-American distinction after becoming the fourth athletic All-American in 2012. She will continue her career on the softball field in the immediate future signing a free agent deal with the Akron Racers of the National Pro Fastpitch league.
Outon also earned All-Conference and NFCA All-Region recognition for the third straight season this year.
