HOUSTON - Houston center Bryce Redman has been named to the Rimington Trophy's spring watch list the Rimington Trophy committee announced Monday. The Longview, Texas, native has started the last 21 games at center for the Cougars.
Monday's honor marks the second consecutive year for Redman to be named to the Rimington Trophy's spring watch list. In 2013, Redman led the Houston offensive line with 989 snaps played and 41 knockdown blocks. The senior helped the offense rank third in The American Athletic Conference with an average of 33.2 points per game.
Redman is one of five centers from the state of Texas on the trophy's watch list and one of 18 players nationally to be named to the list for the second straight year.
The Rimington Trophy is presented annually to the Most Outstanding Center in NCAA FBS College Football. The 15-year old award is overseen by the Boomer Esiason Foundation, which is committed to finding a cure for cystic fibrosis and has raised over $100 million for CF Research.
Dave Rimington, the award's namesake, was a consensus first-team All-America center at the University of Nebraska in 1981 and 1982, during which time he became the John Outland Trophy's only double winner as the nation's finest college interior lineman.
