ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Freshman Cameron Burrell is setting records once again as he finished with the second best time during the 60-meter dash prelims at the 2014 NCAA Division I Track and Field Indoor Championships.
Burrell ran a 6.54 during heat two of the prelims to advance to the finals tomorrow evening. His time is a new personal record for the freshman and the new school record. The last time Burrell broke the school record was in the same facility during the New Mexico Cherry & Silver Collegiate Invitational (Jan. 25) Burrell and Diondre Batson (Alabama) now tie for the best time in the nation.
In the finals, Burrell will face No. 3 Aaron Brown (USC), No. 5 Dentarius Locke (Florida State) No. 6 Tevin Hester (Clemson) and Ryan Mylus (Arizona State). He is still undefeated in head-to-head matchups with these athletes. No. 11 Jalen Miller (Ole Miss) and No. 10 Batson will also compete in the final tomorrow.
Teammate LeShon Collins just barely missed qualifying for the finals. His time of 6.65 (6.644) was the ninth best time, only the top eight advanced.
