HOUSTON - The Houston Cougar soccer team held UConn to a hard-fought, scoreless draw Friday at Carl Lewis Field.
Junior goalkeeper Jordan Brown picked up five saves in the effort, en route to her third shutout of the season.
"We knew going into this game against a great UConn team that we had to stay organized and fight," head coach Chris Pfau said. "At times it might not be pretty, but we would have to stick together and play for each other, and we did a great job of that tonight. I am proud of this team and their commitment to what they are doing."
Houston played an excellent defensive game after facing 18 shots (five on goal) and forcing the Huskies to commit seven offsides in the game.
Houston got plenty of chances that saw the ball just miss off target. Perhaps none was closer than the ball played in from the left side of the box by freshman Selena Peters to a wide-open and sliding Vanessa Almaguer, which just soared high over the bar.
