Opening Statement

"First off, I'll talk about last week, the bye week - having not played, I think it came at a good time. We were a little bit banged up coming off of the Temple game, and we were able to get some young men in our program as healthy as they could be - being that it's the end of October. They really did a nice job, and have been doing an outstanding job - as far as our student-athletes go - in the classroom.

The bye week gave us an opportunity to get some guys as healthy and as fresh as they could be. We game-planned South Florida (USF) and had a couple of practices in preparation for the game this Saturday. Coming off of the game against Temple, we did some things in all three phases that we can build off of. One thing I did not mention after the game - we've talked in the past about (our offense) wanting to get first downs - in my seven years at the University of Houston, I don't remember time of possession in a game being 43 minutes. It was good to see - we were very productive on offense, did not turn the ball over. We turned the ball over four times, defensively; and on special teams, we played a solid game.

Moving forward, we've got another great challenge - another opportunity to go on the road against a well-coached, athletic, fast team in South Florida (USF). As usual, regardless of the opponent - we feel it will be about (our) execution, so that we will try to be successful at in all three phases. We have got to do a great job taking care of the football - South Florida (USF) recovered 12 fumbles this season - we have got to continue to try to force turnovers on defense. I thought going into the Temple game, we did a nice job of creating big plays so far this season, and I think they did a good job in that area against their defense last Friday night - it's something we've got to continue to work on. Turnovers have been a point of emphasis this season, defensively, along with tackling, is eliminating the big plays - it's something we've got to get back to, to be successful against South Florida (USF)."
