Houston Doubles Up On Quarterfinal Spoils

Oct. 18, 2014 Houston - Following a strong performance on Day 3 of the USTA/ITA Texas Regional Championships, the University of Houston women's tennis team built off that performance with another quality showing on Day 4.
No. 66 Despoina Vogasari continued her strong fall play against ranked opponents as she defeated No. 99 Anna Mamalat of Texas A&M by a score of 6-1, 6-1. She followed that up with another victory later in the afternoon, taking down No. 112 Neda Koprcina of Texas, 6-3, 7-6 (5).
Elena Kordolaimi produced an equally impressive Day 4, as she took on No. 54 Rachel Pierson of Texas A&M. Pierson proved no match for Kordolaimi, as she fell to the Greek senior, 6-2, 6-0. Kordolaimi repeated her success against No. 73 Katherine Ip of Rice, taking down her cross-town foe in three sets, 6-2, 3-6, 7-6(1).
With her win versus Pierson, Elena Kordolaimi claimed a career-best victory against a ranked opponent.
Setting up a possible finals match-up against one another, both Vogasari and Kordolaimi will commence their semi-final matches at 12:30 pm on Sunday. Vogasari will face Alexis Pereira of TCU, while Kordolaimi will take on Natalie Beazant of Rice.
Fellow Cougar Maria Cardenas fell in the consolation quarterfinals to Sarah Dvorak of Texas Tech.
