LAFAYETTE, La. - It was an easy sweep for the University of Houston volleyball team as they defeated Alcorn State in three sets (25-11, 25-18, 25-9) Friday afternoon during the Sawyer Camillo Memorial Volleyball tournament.
The Cougars (4-1) had a total of 41 kills compared to the braves 14. As a team Houston also recorded a .414 hitting percentage, the best this season.
Fifteen of the 17 Houston players saw time on the court. Only five of those who played did not record a kill. Sarita Mikals and Taylor Whileyman led the Cougars with seven kills each. Mikals left the match after the second set. Both also recorded a .667 hitting percentage. Stephanie Daxboeck followed with six kills on 10 attempts.
Middle Blocker Hunter Wise had four total blocks (1-3).
Setters Sophie Paine and Destiny Patterson split time in the position while recording double figures in assists. Paine had 22 while Patterson added 12.
UP NEXT
Houston plays two matches tomorrow, the first slated for 10 a.m. against Nicholls State. The Cougars face host team Louisiana-Lafayette at 6 p.m. before heading back to Houston.
