Volleyball Notches First Win of Season, Conference

SAN MARCOS, Texas - In their first appearance of the 2013 season, The University of Houston volleyball team swept Quinnipiac University in three sets (25-8, 25-18, 25-18) during the Delta Zeta Classic this morning in San Marcos, Texas.
The Cougars (1-0) were the first in the American Athletic Conference to win a match this season. The match lasted only an hour, the shortest match for the program.
This match marked the first meeting between the two programs. Houston took a big lead in the first set with a 14-0 run, holding Quinnipiac 20-5. From there, the Cougars scored on three kills and a service ace defeating the Bobcats, 25-8. In the second and third set, Houston defeated the Bobcats 25-18.
Junior transfer Cortney Warren led the team recording nine kills, a .471 hitting percentage. Freshman Sarita Mikals followed with eight kills.
Libero Natalie Keck recorded 12 digs and four service aces against Quinnipiac. Sophomore Sophie Paine had 26 assists in her first match with the Cougars this season.
The Bobcats recorded a positive hitting percentage (.120) during the second set only. They notched a negative percentage in the first set and a zero percent in the third set.
UP NEXT
Houston Volleyball continues tournament play during the Delta Zeta Classic with another match at 4 p.m. today against Lamar. The Cougars will face host team Texas State Saturday at 6:30 p.m. for the final game of the tournament.
