Softball Set for Thursday Doubleheader Against Lamar

HOUSTON - The University of Houston softball team hosts Lamar University Thursday afternoon for a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m. at Cougar Softball Stadium. Houston (22-10, 8-1) and Lamar (15-21) will meet for the first time in series history.
Senior Reina Gaber has the team lead with nine doubles on the year and Houston ranks No. 26 in the NCAA in doubles per game.
Junior Bailey Watts, No. 33 in the NCAA in wins with 12, is Houston's ace on the staff. She's compiled a 1.86 ERA in 18 appearances with 109 innings pitched and 79 strikeouts. The West Columbia (Texas) native picked up a pair of wins recently over BYU this weekend.
Candyce Carter leads Lamar with a .374 average and tied for the team lead in home runs (6). Ashley McDowell is tied for the team lead in home runs with Carter and paces the team in steals with six.
Shannon Millman leads the Cardinals in the circle with the most starts (21), innings (123.0) and strikeouts (74).
Lamar ranks No. 37 in the NCAA in triples per game with six student-athletes collecting at least one.

Houston was bestowed with the 2012 Conference USA Sport Academic Award for the highest GPA in the conference as 18 members of the team made Commissioner's Honor Roll.
Cullum also leads the nation in sacrifice hits per game (0.47).
