Houston Hosts Pair of Texas Schools In Midweek Contests

HOUSTON - The University of Houston softball team hosts a pair of Texas teams this week as HBU crosses town on Tuesday (6:30 p.m.) and the Cougars take on the UTSA Road Runners on Wednesday (5:30 p.m.). Wednesday's game against UTSA serves as UH Faculty and Staff Appreciation Day with all faculty and staff receiving discounted tickets and opportunities for prizes and more throughout the game.
Cougar Red Out - The first 75 fans through the gate will receive an official 2013 Houston Softball T-Shirt All fans are encouraged to wear red.
Wednesday vs. UTSA
Faculty & Staff Appreciation Day - All UH faculty and staff with a valid UH ID will be able to purchase a discounted ticket for only $5. Tickets can be purchased in advance at the Athletics Ticket Office in the Athletics Alumni Center during normal business hours or at the ticket booth on game day. Raffles for different prizes will be held throughout the game and all Houston Faculty/Staff in attendance will automatically be entered just for attending the game!
Senior Holly Anderson has held the leadoff batting position for most of the year and has swung the bat at a team-leading .429 clip. Junior catcher Haley Outon has found her power stroke with three long balls in 26 at bats with 11 RBI and seven walks so far.
Bailey Watts and Summer Groholski both sport 3-1 records with Julana Shrum posting a 1-0 record with no earned runs allowed through 11 innings of work in her freshman campaign.
The Cougars are 2-0 with an 11-0 run differential against their crosstown-competitors HBU in the all-times series.
UTSA (8-7) went 2-3 at the Texas A&M Invitational picking up wins over SE-Louisiana and Purdue over the weekend. UTSA has two hitters with four home runs a piece (Megan Low and Vivian Tijerina) that pace the team in power hitting. Both have double-digit RBI numbers as Low leads the team with 15 runs driven in and 16 hits. Halyee Staton is the top pitcher for the Road Runners, appearing in 11 games with a 5-1 record and 1.58 ERA.
