HOUSTON - Haley Outon has been named the Conference USA Hitter of the Week (May 7) after homering in each game last week to help Houston to a 4-0 record and herself to setting a school record. This is the first weekly C-USA award for Outon and the third Houston hitter of the year to receive the mark.
Against Southern Miss on Sunday, the sophomore connected on her 20th home run of the year to set the single-season school record. That total stands in second place in C-USA history after UTEP's Camilla Carrera improved on the C-USA record this season, formerly held by Laurie Wagner (Houston 19), with her total of 32 in 2012.
Outon batted .667 (10-for-15) and slugged 1.600 during the week of work, and had 10 RBIs with seven runs. She also secured her first career triple over the weekend against USM.
The native of Pflugerville, Texas, posted multiple hits (18) and RBIs (16) in each of the games during the week to push her into first on the team in those categories.
"I'm real proud of what Haley has done this year," said head coach Kyla Holas. "She's getting the recognition she's deserved after all her hard work and effort that she's put into her batting. But she's been a force behind the plate for us as well. She's such a complete player and we're lucky to have her clicking on all cylinders as we head into the Championships."
