HOUSTON - Emerging as a team leader throughout the 2011-12 season, University of Houston freshman Roman Robledo was named to the Conference USA All-Freshman Team on Tuesday afternoon.
Joining the Cougars out of Harlingen High, Robledo was one of only two student-athletes to compete in all 12 team-scoring tournaments this season. Through the Conference USA Championships, he leads the team with a 72.92 scoring average and 15 rounds of par or better.
Robledo, who is the nephew of former Cougar golfer Rene Rangel, recently earned a place on the C-USA Championships All-Tournament Team after tying for fifth at Texarkana Country Club on April 22-24. He became the second Cougar in as many seasons to be named to the Championships' All-Tournament Team.
This season, Robledo has posted two top-five finishes, including a third-place finish at the Rice Intercollegiate after shooting a career low 212 early in the spring season. In the fall, he tied for fourth at the Lone Star Invitational with a 54-hole score of 215.
The C-USA postseason teams were determined in voting by the league's 11 head coaches.
