HOUSTON - Diedre Outon threw a no hitter against Memphis last Saturday and was named the Conference USA Pitcher of the Week as announced by the league office Monday afternoon.
This is the second time this year Outon has been named C-USA Pitcher of the Week, and the third time of her career. Outon went 2-0 with a save during Houston's opening tournament to earn her first weekly honor this year (Feb. 13).
Outon threw eight strikeouts in six innings including six of the first nine hitters and allowed no walks during Saturday's contest. Only one Memphis player reached base twin sister Haley threw the Tiger out trying to steal. Outon faced the minimum through six innings and improved her record to 5-3 on the year.
The sophomore threw eight innings over the weekend and allowed only one hit and no runs in her two starts. The Cougars went 3-0 last week and are winners of eight-straight games.
Outon also helped out on the offensive side as she notched her first double of the year and scored two runs in her start on Saturday as Houston posted a run-rule victory of 8-0 in six innings.
Outon's no hitter was the second of the season for Houston. Sophomore Bailey Watts threw her own hitless game against Louisiana Monroe on Feb. 18.
