HOUSTON - The University of Houston softball team opens up an eight-game homestand tonight as the Cougars host Northwestern State at 6 p.m. inside Cougar Softball Stadium.
The Cougars have been on the road for 13 of the last 15 contests and faced five ranked opponents over that stretch.
LAST TIME OUT
Houston opened up Conference USA play last weekend as the Cougars travelled to Marshall and went 1-2 in the opening series. Sunday's 3-2 win over the Thundering Herd ended Houston's five-game losing streak.
The streak started against No. 22 Texas A&M on March 4 after Houston defeated the ranked Aggies the previous day. The Cougars then faced off against another ranked opponent as No. 10 Louisiana took two games from Houston last Wednesday.
Bailey Watts threw a season-high 10 strikeouts in Sunday's victory over Marshall to stop the skid.
OPPONENT NOTES
After starting the season 2-12, Northwestern State has won eight of their last nine games for a 10-13 overall record.
Brianna Rodriguez leads the team with a .423 OBP and .587 slugging, and also earned honorable mention for SLC Hitter of the Week on Monday after going 4-for-8 with three doubles in the doubleheader against Southern.
SERIES HISTORY
The series history between the Cougars and Lady Demons is tied at 2-2. This is the first time the two teams have played since a 2006 game that went Houston's favor 4-2.
