Track Concludes Day Two of New Balance Invitational

NEW YORK CITY - The University of Houston track and field teams conclude the final day of the New Balance Collegiate Invitational Saturday night at the Armory as freshman distance runner Yonas Tesfai set a new University of Houston indoor record in the men's 3,000m.
Tesfai's new indoor record in the men's 3,000m with his mark of 8:21.71, was good enough for eighth place. Sesar Figueroa held the previous record of 8:24.49, set in 2006.
Sprinter Errol Nolan finished fourth in the men's championship division of the 200m dash with a time of 21.30. Nolan posted the second-fastest time in the preliminary round with his season-best mark of 21.19.
Middle Distance runner Ciera Johnson added a solid performance as she finished 13th in the championship division of the women's 800m with her time of 2:11.72.
The Cougars cracked the top-10 in the school record book in seven events this weekend.
The men's DMR moved to sixth on the list with their time of 10:03.85, freshman shot putter
Darrell Hill also moved to sixth, with his toss of 17.62m and DeMeeka Jones moved into the fifth place in the women's 60m hurdles behind hurdle coach Seun Adigun's second best mark with her new personal best time of 8.28.
In addition, pole vaulter Karley King is now second in the record books after her 4.10m vault, Tai'shea Reese is now fourth all-time in the women's long jump with her mark of 6.20m and Emily Nnokwam is now third in the women's weight throw after her toss of 17.55m.

Houston will return to action on Feb. 11, as they head to College Station for the Texas A&M Challenge.
