The Green Wave used hot shooting from the field early, hitting 58.6 percent (17-of-29) from the field in the first half to take a 42-30 lead. Tulane cooled off only slightly in the second half and drained 50 percent (30-of-60) in the game.
Redshirt freshman guard Joseph Young led the Cougars with 17 points off the bench and added four rebounds, three steals and an assist in 37 minutes. Freshman forward TaShawn Thomas posted 11 points with a team-high eight rebounds, while junior guard Jonathon Simmons added 10 points with two rebounds and a pair of steals.
Tulane guard Ricky Tarrant led all players with 21 points and three 3-pointers, while guard Jordan Callahan added 17 points with five rebounds, four assists and two steals. Forward Josh Davis posted 15 points with a game-high 10 rebounds and added two assists, four blocks and two steals.
With the loss, Houston dropped to 11-11 overall and 3-6 in C-USA games. Tulane improved to 15-8 overall and 3-6 in C-USA games.

The Cougars return to the friendly confines of Hofheinz Pavilion when they meet crosstown rival Rice at 7 p.m., Wednesday.
