HOUSTON - The University of Houston soccer team (0-4-0) is set to host two games this week. The Cougars will face LSU Tuesday at 7 p.m. before matching up with Texas Southern Friday at 7 p.m. Both games will be held at Robertson Stadium.
Quick Turnaround
Houston will be making a quick turnaround as they prepare for this weeks games. The Cougars have just one day of rest after Sunday's match against North Texas.
Previous Outing
The Cougars dropped a tough match to North Texas, 1-0, Sunday night at Robertson Stadium. Houston matched North Texas' shot attempts in the first half, but the Mean Green capitalized on a key possession sending one of it's five shots into the back of the net. Kelsey Pearlman scored the game-winning goal in the 29th minute. Pearlman's shot from 20 yards out slipped just under the goal post and over the outstretched arms of Houston keeper Cami Koski.
Although the Cougars nearly doubled their shot attempts in the second half, they were unable to score. Houston had its chances in the second half, the best coming in the 77th minute when Sharis Lachappelle fired a shot from the left wing that was saved by Mean Green goalkeeper Jackie Kerestine.
Scouting LSU
LSU (1-2-0) recently dropped a double overtime decision Friday at Rice. Rice scored the game-winning goal with just over two minutes remaining in the second overtime. The loss was the second straight for the Tigers, who also fell to N.C. State, 0-1, earlier in the week.
Offensively, four different players have scored each of the four goals for the LSU this season. Freshman forward Alex Cook leads the team in shot attempts with nine, while Addie Eggleston leads the team in assists with two.
Series Notes
Houston's last meeting with LSU resulted in a scoreless double overtime tie, Sept. 16, 2007, in Houston. LSU leads the all-time series 1-0-1 over the Cougars.
Houston vs. Texas Southern
The Cougars have been very successful against Texas Southern, leading the all-time series 4-0-0, outscoring the Tigers 43-1. At the last meeting between the two teams, Houston defeated Texas Southern, 7-0, Sept. 12, 2010.
