University of Houston senior quarterback Case Keenum was named to the 75th Annual Maxwell Award Watch list, which honors the nation's best offensive player, as it was announced Tuesday by the Maxwell Football Club.
Keenum will be on the radar for every offensive award as the signal caller closes in on the NCAA all-time records for total offense, passing yards and touchdowns thrown. Keenum has been a mainstay on the NCAA lists for offense after leading the nation in total offense in both 2008 and 2009. He has won 22 games as the starting quarterback at UH and has a chance to become the all-time winningest quarterback in school history.
In his career, Keenum has been named to eight All-America teams and has been a finalist for three national offensive awards including the prestigious Walter Camp Player of the Year Award. He was the 2009 Conference USA Most Valuable Player, the 2008 C-USA Offensive Player of the Year and the 2007 league Freshman of the Year. On top of the athletic awards, Keenum is a five-time Commissioner's Honor Roll recipient.
The Maxwell Award has been given to America's outstanding collegiate football player since 1937 and is named in honor of sportswriter Robert W. "Tiny" Maxwell.
Semifinalists for the Maxwell Award will be announced Oct. 31 and the three finalists will be unveiled Nov. 21. The winner of the 2011 Maxwell Award will be announced as part of the Home Depot ESPNU College Football Awards Show held on Dec. 8. The formal presentation of the award will be made at the Maxwell Football Club Awards Gala hosted by Harrah's Entertainment Atlantic City on March 2, 2012.
The watch list candidates have been chosen by the Maxwell Football Club's selection committee, evaluating past performance and future potential. The Club reserves the right to make additions and deletions to these lists as the 2011 season unfolds. All members of the Maxwell Football Club, NCAA sports information directors, head coaches, and selected national media are eligible to vote for the awards.
