Jasmine Trier Vying for Miss Texas USA

HOUSTON - University of Houston's Jasmine Trier has been selected to represent the MacGregor area of Houston in the Miss Texas USA pageant, which will be held on Sunday, Sept. 4, 2011, at the Hilton Americas-Houston Hotel. The senior distance runner will have the chance to represent Texas in the Miss USA Pageant and Miss Universe if she continues her winning ways.
"I love putting University of Houston's name out there," said Trier. "Any opportunity I get to represent the university in the public eye's is something I'm honored to do. I also really enjoy it."
Trier has competed in beauty pageants since the seventh grade and attributes the learning experience to helping her well-roundedness.
"It's a great learning experience, and helps tremendously in one's people and communication skills."
Trier is a four year-letter in cross country, indoor and outdoor track and field. She won the Conference USA Spirit of Service award which is designed to recognize the community service efforts of the league's student-athletes, based upon significant community service, good academic standing and participation in their elected sport.
