Ramsey, Appling Earn Postseason C-USA Baseball Honors

PEARL, Miss. - Senior Caleb Ramsey and freshman Landon Appling took home a pair of Conference USA All-Conference awards the league office announced on Tuesday.
Ramsey, a four-year letterwinner for the Cougars, was named to the Second Team All-Conference list as an outfielder. He has started 53 games this season, posting a .313 batting average. In addition, Ramsey leads the team with 17 doubles and is tied for a team-high with 44 RBIs. He ranks sixth in C-USA in doubles and eighth in RBIs. In league action, Ramsey is batting .313 with six doubles and 14 RBIs.
During his four-year career at Houston, Ramsey has made 172 starts and his 44 career doubles rank as the eighth most in school history. Ramsey also tied the career single-game record with five hits against Texas State earlier this season.
This is the first postseason C-USA award for the Houston native.
Appling was named to the All-Freshman Team, becoming the 25th Cougar to be named to the team in C-USA history. In addition, Houston has also had at least one freshman named to the team in the last six seasons.
The El Campo, Texas, native is batting .258 as the only true freshman in the Cougar's starting lineup. He also has four doubles, two triples and a home run in 55 starts at centerfield. Appling connected on a three-run home run in UH's regular season finale against Memphis on May 21.
Appling has a team-high 21 stolen bases, the second most in C-USA. He put together a string of 12 consecutive stolen bases, the fourth longest streak in school history. He set the school record with 20 hit by pitches and has a 1.000 fielding percentage with four assists.
In league action, Appling is posting a .315 batting average with three doubles, one home run and 11 stolen bases. He also leads the league in stolen bases and fielding percentage in C-USA games.
In addition to the All-Conference awards, junior Matt Creel was named to the C-USA All-Academic Team on Monday.
