The meet takes place at newly renovated Hollyway Field and Ley Track. This is the first time since 2007 the Outdoor Championships have been hosted at Rice. The Cougars last competed on the surface on May 4th for the Rice Field & Track meet.
MEN
The men enter this meet as the two-time defending champions. Last year they won the title over UTEP by 65 points, the second largest margin of victory since the 2005 squad won the title by 96 points.
Errol Nolan, last year's 400m champion and 2010 C-USA Outdoor Athlete of the Year, is seeded No. 1 in the 200m and 400m. Nolan is ranked No. 15 in the nation in the 400m (45.89).
Seeded No. 2 in the 400m dash is Kelvin Furlough, who holds the 24th fastest time in the nation at 46.29.
Alex Bentley, who won the pole vault conference crown as a freshman in 2007, returns for his last outdoor competition. He stands at No. 22 in the NCAAs with his 5.26m/17'3 clearance at the LSU Alumni Gold Meet.
Chris Carter is set to compete in the triple and long jump. The two-time defending outdoor triple jump champion is seeded No. 1 in the event, and No. 7 in the long jump. Carter swept the horizontal jump portion of the C-USA Indoor Championships.
WOMEN
It has been since 2006 that the Cougar women have hoisted the team championships at the conference meet. With six conference titles since joining the conference in 1997, Houston still outpaces their conference foe in total titles by a wide margin.
Both relay teams are seeded second. The 4x100m team ranks as the 10th fastest in the NCAAs this year.
Grecia Bolton, the 2009 C-USA 200m champion, is seeded fourth in the 200m and third in the 100m, and is a fixture on the Cougars relay team.
Karley King brings her 4.00m pole vault height as she secured the second seed with her final vault of the regular season.
THURSDAY
The first day of action begins with the multievent competition as Megan Frausto competes in the women's heptathlon and Kevin Johnson represents Houston in the men's decathlon.
The heptathlon begins at 4 p.m. with the 100m hurdles followed by the high jump, shot put and 200m on the first day of competition.
The men's decathlon kicks off with the 100m dash followed by the long jump, shot put, high jump and the 400m dash.
Johnson was the runner up in the decathlon last year, scoring a personal best 6,359 points in the contest.
