HOUSTON - University of Houston sophomore third baseman Holly Anderson earned her first Conference USA Hitter of the Week award after helping her team sweep UCF and become the C-USA co-regular season champions during the week of May 2-9.
In the final series of the season, Anderson notched a hit and an RBI in every game against UCF. She went 4-for-7 on the weekend, for a .571 batting average. The sophomore hit her sixth and seventh homers of the season en route to collecting a 1.429 slugging percentage for the week.
In the series opener against the Knights, Anderson blasted her sixth homer of the year to give Houston the 1-0 lead in the Cougars' first trip to the plate. In game two, she connected on her seventh bomb of the season. After scoring earlier in the game, her homer marked her team-leading 38th and 39th runs scored of the year.
After going yard in both games on Saturday, Anderson laid down her team-leading 17th sacrifice bunt of the season to move Katy Beth Sherman into scoring position in the first inning of the series finale. In the bottom of the fifth, Anderson and Sherman connected again when her line drive to center scored Sherman to strengthen the Cougar lead.
During the Cougars' regular season title run, Anderson has hit safely in 19 of the Cougars' last 22 games. Earlier this season, Anderson put together a 13-game hit streak that ranked as the 8th-longest in the NCAA. Heading into the C-USA Tournament, her .336 average leads the team.
